The Training of Teachers in Africa. Challenges and Attemps for a Helpless Continent, between Pound, Chaos and Hope

Abstract

The training of African teachers stands as a challenge and a scientific and moral obligation to aspire to improve the conditions of success of their respective educational systems, and consequently of the culture and well-being of the African peoples and citizens. We consider the persistence of the models of educational institutions, and of the teacher training of the old metropolises, in the already decolonized African countries, in the political field, as an inevitable process, but subject to permanent criticism. But other specific educational challenges remain pending to achieve real autonomy for each African country, and above all respect for the identities of African peoples through schools and existing teacher training institutions. The critical integration of contributions from teacher training models from the former colonizing powers seems very reasonable for most African countries. It is also essential attentive to the technical influences of a global world, subjected to the dictates of the media, the internet and social networks, but defending an ethic of teachers training. But an education of African teachers can never lose sight of the importance of cultivating the identities of the African peoples, even advancing in processes of ideological, cultural and educational “decolonization”. There is a room for the hope of Africa from the contribution of education from the training of teachers.
