Education for sensitivity towards others after the reconstruction of memories of play

Abstract

Children's looking at images contributes to their education in feelings and emotions. When these images are of other children, they can provoke responses of acceptance or rejection, of emotional identification. At times, these responses lead to feelings of solidarity. The present article investigates this process by having the children view advertisements for toys and asking them to remember times when they were playing. It is an empirical investigation of the narrative and quantitative type. Toy advertisements from the sixties until today were used. The subjects belonged to four different generations. One of the main conclusions is that toys and games play a part in the current tendency for people to concentrate on themselves.
