In his Footsteps: Children’s School Experience in Fiction
Abstract
To what extent does narrative fiction provide materials for school thinking? This question is what leads us to review eleven stories written between 1928 and 1976, gathered in the anthology entitled El aula y sus muros. The importance of this anthology, carried out by the writer Alicia Molina, consists in bringing together samples of a single literary genre that provide a complete or total vision of a school day or moment, unlike other compilations that use fragments or different genres. in which the narrative act is suspended or truncated. These are 11 stories whose authors come from Mexico, Barcelona, Buenos Aires and Peru and whose years of birth range from the end of the 19th century to the 40s of the 20th, and although they make «the implacable denunciation of the educational system», as the compiler affirms, they also lead us to observe how the experience of being in school is lived, remembered and shaped.
