Revisiting the Context-Based Dance Education Pedagogical Proposal
Abstract
This article revisits the Context-based Dance Education Pedagogical Proposal created and developed by Dr. Isabel Marques in the 1990s. Starting from the contextualization of dance teaching in Brazil, her native country, the author takes us to new paths that relate dance teaching to current sociopolitical-cultural contexts: the post-pandemic, hyperconsumption, new technologies and the neoliberal advance. Based on the studies of Paulo Freire, a Brazilian educator, this article discusses perspectives for dance teaching within a critical approach, understanding education, such as the author, as a way of pronouncing the world. For this discussion, the author brings the contributions of Byung-Chul Han, Gilles Lipovetsky, Ailton Krenak and Boaventura de Sousa Santos, among others, to decolonize dance teaching and bring proposals for reflection on dance in Brazilian public schools.
