A Methodology to design the adaptation in content presentation of adaptive educational hypermedia systems based on learning style
Abstract Adaptive Hypermedia Systems are Hypermedia Systems with the capacity to adapt contents, multimedia technologies and navigation support to the characteristics of their potencial users, in order to give a presentation and multimedia formats relevant to each user according to each user and in the formats most suited for each. Some of these systems have incorporated the students' cognitive styles and learning styles as user's individual traits on which to base the adaptation. This new way of adjusting the information for each type of student is based on the idea that different students do not obtain the same degree of performance with one single way of teaching; they require instructional strategies adapted to their preferences in order to process and perceive the information. Adaptive Hypermedia Systems based on Learning Styles have used different learning style models or theories, different kind of adaptation and diverse techniques. The goal of this paper is to propose a methodology for designing the adaptive presentation in Adaptive Hypermedia Systems Based on Learning Styles. In this proposal different important aspects are considered from a pedagogical perspective: a set of criteria for selecting the most appropriate learning style model. factors to take into account when defining the instructional strategies and the different elements of an adaptive presentation content, in order to obtain an effective adaptation that favours the attaining of the learning goal.
