Jean-Jacques Rousseau: la educación moral y religiosa en el Proyecto (1740) y la Memoria (¿1749?)

Abstract

The question of religious formation in Rousseau's pedagogical thought has been widely studied. However, it has not been taken into account that the Genevan began to outline his educational ideas early on, since his earliest writings, erroneously dated, have barely been analyzed. We now have an edition of these pamphlets, the Project for the Education of M. de Sainte-Marie (1740) and the Memoir presented to M. Dupin on the Education of M. his Son (1749?). In this edition –with their chronology corrected– both writings have been translated into Spanish and compared. This has allowed us to understand the evolution of Rousseau's thought between the writing of each of them, as well as to appreciate his first attempts in the field of pedagogy. This article will focus specifically on the analysis of the ideas about moral and religious formation formulated in these projects, in order to understand, from their beginnings, the doctrines that Rousseau would later expound in his book Emile, or On Education.
