The Conflicting Argument about Wolves in Asturias: A Public Scientific-technological Controversy
Abstract
This article addresses the existing issues surrounding the management of the Iberian wolf in the Autonomous Community of Asturias as a case of public scientific-technological controversy. Special emphasis has been placed on the need to conceive a heterogeneous range of relevant agents within the controversy with disparate epistemic attitudes, different conceptions of risk relative to the problem, and conflicting political interests. Likewise, an attempt has been made to account for the significant component of underdetermination that affects the controversy and the need to modify communication practices and management of the problem, in order to reach democratic solutions to the conflict that exclude unilateral actions based on allegedly objective data.
