Author Guidelines
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES FOR STUDIA HISTORICA. HISTORIA MODERNA
Studia Historica. Historia Moderna is a biannual academic journal that publishes research on Early Modern History in Europe, Spain, and its global projections. The journal is published by the Department of Medieval, Modern, and Contemporary History at the University of Salamanca and the Spanish Society for Early Modern History.
Submissions
Submissions should be sent in Word (.docx), OpenDocument (.odf), or Rich Text Format (.rtf) format to the journal's OJS server at:

Manuscripts should be no longer than 15,000 words in length. Each manuscript should be preceded by a cover page that includes the following information:
- Title of the manuscript
- Name(s) of the author(s)
- Professional title(s)
- Affiliation(s)
- Complete mailing address
- Phone number
- Email address
- ORCID ID
To ensure anonymity during the peer review process, two copies of the manuscript should be submitted, one complete and one with the author's name(s) removed. The author's name(s) should be replaced with the word "AUTHORREREFERENCE" in all caps, bold, and yellow.
Manuscripts should be written in Spanish or English. In either case, the author(s) should submit the following:
- A Spanish or English title of the manuscript
- A Spanish or English abstract of approximately 150 words
- Up to five keywords (in both languages) to facilitate indexing
Citations
Citations should follow the APA (6th edition) style, which uses the author-date system. For example:
- One author: (Fernández, 2009: 34)
- Two authors: (Ramírez and Sánchez, 2016: 65-67)
- Three authors: (Ruiz, Pérez, and Esteban, 2011: 8-12)
- More than three authors: (Muñoz et al., 2008: 57)
In-text citations should be formatted as follows:
- (Fernández, 2008b: 34)
- (Ramírez and Sánchez, 2016: 65-67)
- (Pérez, 2005: 121-123)
Footnotes should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals and placed at the bottom of the page. They should be used only to clarify the text, provide additional information, or cite sources.
Direct quotations that are two lines or less should be enclosed in single quotation marks and placed within the text. If the quotation is longer than two lines, it should be indented and followed by the footnote number.
References
References should be listed at the end of the manuscript in alphabetical order and formatted in APA (6th edition) style with French indents. The following format should be used:

Organization of the Manuscript
- The manuscript should be divided into sections and subsections, using Arabic numerals.
- Tables, figures, and maps should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals. Each table, figure, or map should have a brief title and should indicate its sources.
Review Process
- The Secretariat of Studia Historica. Historia Moderna will acknowledge receipt of all submissions. The review process consists of three stages:**
- Preliminary evaluation: This stage will verify that the manuscript meets the journal's submission guidelines, is relevant to the journal's scope, and meets a minimum standard of quality. At this stage, the manuscript may be returned for revision or rejected outright.
- Blind peer review: If the manuscript passes the preliminary evaluation, it will be sent for blind
