New advances in systems for the visualization and presentation of teaching materials
Abstract We report a general view of current systems for the visualization and presentation of biomedical teaching materials, reflecting on the new technological trends using three-dimensional imaging. As assessment is made of the didactic possibilities of such technological resources in the training process in the field of the health sciences. Different procedures, such as holography, stereoscopic vision, and virtual reality and enhancement techniques for simulating surgical approaches are described. An evaluation is made of the latest trends in the visualization and structuring of knowledge through the generation of the so-called conceptual maps, which allow teaching materials and their hierarchical relationships to be visualized. Finally, an analysis is made of role played by some devices, such as digital blackboards in training systems for the interactive visualization of teaching materials in the field of the biomedical sciences.
