Perception, Education and Art

Abstract

Perception is the starting point of knowledge, desire, and action. Aristotle emphasizes its significance and points out that it requires education, since art and the linguistic environment can influence how reality is perceived and, therefore, how one acts. The purpose of this paper is, firstly, to explain the process of perception of the individual as Aristotle expounds it, and secondly, to show how the perception of works of art can shape the way we perceive and, consequently, the way we act. These two aims are framed within a broader one: to defend the value of art in the process of moral education.
