Aristotle On the Way Something Appears
Resumen
En este artículo analizo el examen aristotélico de la phantasia (especialmente en De anima III 3). En primer lugar, me centro en la distinción preliminar que Aristóteles establece entre percepción, phantasia y pensamiento; en segundo lugar, reconstruyo su debate polémico con Platón sobre el valor cognitivo de la percepción y la relación entre percepción, «apariencia» y creencia; en tercer lugar, defiendo la implicación de la phantasia en los procesos subyacentes a la percepción compleja (la percepción de los sensibles comunes y la percepción por accidente); en cuarto lugar, sugiero brevemente una interpretación disyuntiva de la «apariencia» aristotélica con el fin de evitar parcialmente la aparente inconsistencia entre la marcada diferenciación de la percepción respecto a la phantasía y la concepción de que la phantasia está implicada en la percepción compleja.
