What if...? History Education and Counterfactual Thinking in the 21th century Norwegian curricula

Abstract

This paper aims to show the current state of history teaching in Norway during the transition between the curriculum implemented in 2006 and the new 2020 educational reform, and to analyze specifically the results of the official recognition granted to the didactic utility of counterfactual reflection in the classroom as a result of its incorporation since 2006 among the competence objectives of the teaching history in the educational system of this country both during compulsory education and in upper secondary education.
