Teacher Evaluation with a Formative Approach: The role of Peer Support
Abstract
eacher evaluation has been part of the educational policies in Latin America as far as its impact on the improvement of teaching processes and its scope in the continuous training of teachers, which strengthens educational systems that promote and guarantee the right to learning of students. In this article, we analyze the implications of teacher evaluation with a formative approach and the relevance of peer support. The analysis allows us to identify commonalities in the attributes of formative teacher evaluation: improvement-oriented, progressive, permanent, participatory, contextual, and situated. Regarding peer support in teacher evaluation, its contribution to collaborative work and reflective practice anchored to the context where the teaching activity takes place is distinguished. Finally, as an epilogue, the possibilities of formative teacher evaluation in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic for the integration of learning communities that transcend physical spaces and generate collaborative networks among teachers are discussed.
