A century of Popular Universities in Spain (1903-2000)
Abstract The historiography on popular education in the XXth century Spain has been mainly centered on the analysis of the experiences in some relevant and significant Popular Universities (Valencia, Madrid, Segovia, Cartagena, etc.). Nevertheless, there are scarce studies trying to present an overview of the different stages of this movement. The existing historiographical gaps oblige to continue the studies on the the evolution of the most important Popular Universities as well on each of the periods observed. Taking into account the limits imposed by these lacks, this work intends to offer a general picture as regards the origins and evolution of these experiences of popular education in XXth century Spain.
