Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it for consideration before any other journal (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice or Microsoft Word document format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • All available measures should be taken to ensure an anonymous revision of the text.
  • APA Style (7th edition) has been used in the text and in the bibliographical references at the end.
  • Metadata details (when the article is sent through the journal's website) have been completed, including: all data of the author or authors, mail, institution and country; equally the section in which the article has to be included, key words, abstract and bibliography are needed. In case the article has to be included in the section “Monographic”, the title of the special issue for which it is proposed will clearly be indicated.

Author Guidelines

* The main aim of El Futuro del Pasado. Revista electrónica de Historia is to publish pieces of research, studies and scientific essays about history, no matter their time, place, field of study, style or manner.

* El Futuro del Pasado charges no fees for submitting or publishing articles.

* Only contributions that are original, unpublished and not submitted to other journals will be allowed.

* The following collaborations may be submitted, as long as they are original and unpublished: studies, researches, scientific essays and reviews. 

* Originals in the following languages are allowed for submitting: Spanish, English, Portuguese, Italian and French.

* The length of studies, scientific essays and pieces of research will not exceed 20.000 words; recensions will not exceed 2.000 words.

* Studies, essays and pieces of research must include:

  • The title in the original language and in English. In case the latter is the original language, the title in Spanish will be included.
  • The title must be as illustrative, clear and accurate as possible. In no case should it exceed 150 characters (spaces included).
  • An abstract in the original language and in English between 200 and 250 words long. It will include, at least, the following information: objectives, methodology, sources/samples, main conclusion.
  • Four to six keywords, both in the original language and in English, that define the work’s contents. It is recommended to use the UNESCO Thesaurus.

* Collaborations will be submitted through the Submissions section.

* The editors and the Editorial Council will be the first to evaluate the articles sent for the Monograph and Studies sections, and then they will be assessed by the external revisers following the Peer review policy.  The decision will be notified to the collaborators with any proposed amendments, if it were the case.  Accepted articles will appear on the first issues with pages available. Editors retain copyright.

* All articles must be written in Times New Roman, font size 12, singled-spaced and with numbered pages.

* References, bibliography and notes will comply with the style standards of the APA (Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. 7.ª ed., 2020.

* For in-text quotations, the next guidelines will be followed:

  • If the quote includes the author’s surname, only the date and referred page(s) will be included in brackets.
  • If the author’s surname is not included, the surname, date in brackets and referred page(s) will be mentioned.
  • If two or more authors are responsible for a work, all the surnames will be mentioned only the first time.  Only the first author’s surname plus et al will appear on the following occasions.
  • In-text quotations in the texts will go between inverted commas. Those whose length is five lines or over will be rendered in a similar style but in a different paragraph, indented and size-10 font.

* Images, pictures and charts must be presented in .jpg format with a resolution of 300 pixels per inch, in separate files as an annex.  Files must be named according to the order they follow within the document: figure01.jpg, chart02.jpg or graph01.jpg.

* Apart from the articles, every author will submit their full name, postal and email addresses, work place and position, and a brief outline of their Curriculum Vitae (between 200 and 300 words).

* Authors will not receive any economic compensation in return for their published articles.

* El Futuro del Pasado. Revista electrónica de Historia is not responsible for the authors’ ideas, opinions and writing styles.

* Please note that Futuro del Pasado. Revista electrónica de Historia uses Turnitin Ephorus software to screen manuscripts for unoriginal material.  By submitting their manuscript to Futuro del Pasado. Revista electrónica de Historia authors agree to any necessary originality checks and your manuscript may have to undergo during the peer-review and production processes.  Please note, any author who fails to adhere to the above conditions will have their manuscript rejected.
