The contruction of the "others" in the educational culture: an analysis of some social and political discourses about the teacher

Abstract

"Education Governance, Social Integration and Exclusion in Europe," a report on research conducted in eight European regions between 1998 and 2000, devotes one of its chapters to an analysis of the social construction of subjects involved in European educational systems. The method employed applies discourse analysis to a series of interviews. This paper considers the images that teachers inspire in other actors in the Spanish educational system (administrators and politicians, parents, labor unionists and businessmen).
