Education and citizenship: the civic commitment of spanish young people
Abstract This paper analyses the results of an empirical research on the civic commitment of Spanish young people. The results show that Spanish young people value and support the democratic political system, but they have many difficulties to see themselves as active citizens within it. So promoting adhesion to democratic ideals through education is not enough. Moreover, we need to develop an active sense of citizenship which leads people to feel part in the permanent construction of the democratic society.
