El Maestro (1921-1923): Literary Attempts in Vasconcelo’s Cultural Proposal
Abstract This paper analyses, from a pedagogical perspective, the literary proposal of El Maestro, a magazine of national culture that was published from 1921 to 1923, which publication represents one of the highlights of Vasconcelos’ cultural idea. First, José Vasconcelos autobiography is linked as a decisive part in the creation of a policy related to reading. Secondly, it explores El Maestro publication around his pedagogical ideas and its composition as cultural object as a Mexican cultural object from postrevolutionary period. Finally, the literary proposal is approached to rethink the figure of the teacher and educative experiences produced through the act of reading.
