La Escuela Nueva en España: crónica y semblanza de un mito

Resumen

RESUMEN: En este artículo se presenta una visión de conjunto sobre la Escuela Nueva en España. Es un trabajo de síntesis, que integra estudios locales más específicos y formula hipótesis y planteamientos globales. Como punto de partida, se presenta el hecho de que las publicaciones realizadas en diferentes países sobre este movimiento de renovación pedagógica, desarrollado en todo el mundo desde finales del siglo xix hasta los años cuarenta del siglo XX, no hablaron apenas de la experiencia española. Por lo tanto, tratamos de justificar la existencia real en nuestro país de un movimiento de Escuela Nueva. El trabajo aporta un análisis valorativo de algunas de las innovaciones institucionales y metodológicas realizadas en España en esta época y claramente influidas por el movimiento, así como las reformas gubernamentales que se inspiraron en él. Finalmente reflexionamos sobre las características específicas del caso español y aportamos algunas conclusiones explicativas sobre la escasa atención que se le prestó en el mundo. ABSTRACT: In this article an overall vision about progressive education in Spain is presented. It is a synthesis work, that integrates more local and specific studies and formulates global hypothesis and statements. The fact that the publications done in different countries about this pedagogical renovation movement, developed in all the world from the end of the XIXth century till the forties of the XXth century, hardly speak about the Spanish experience, is presented as starting point. Therefore we try to justify the real existence of a movement of progressive education in our country. This work gives some evaluative analysis of several institutional and methodological innovations performed in Spain during this period, as well as the governmental reforms that were inspired by it. Finally, we think about the specific characteristics and traits of the Spanish experience and we give some explicative conclusions about the limited attention that was paid in the world to it.
