Proposals for Book Review
GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS OF BOOKS AND DIGITAL RESOURCES
Authors interested in having their books reviewed in Toldot. Studia Hebraica et Sephardica may contact the Review Editor, David Torollo: dtorollo@ucm.es.
For their work to be considered, authors must send a copy of their book to the following address:

In the case of open-access digital publications, authors may send the download link to the Review Editor’s email address.
Books received by the Editorial Board will be evaluated in advance by the Director and the Review Editor and will be approved by the Editorial Board for review in the journal, taking into account the following criteria:
- Only works for which no more than three years have passed since their first edition will be accepted.
- The works must be related to the thematic areas of the journal and capable of interesting a broad range of readers in the field of Hebrew and Sephardic Studies.
- The book must offer original contributions and have been published by a press with recognized academic and scholarly reputation.
The journal also accepts proposals for reviews of digital resources related to Hebrew and Sephardic Studies. Authors, research teams/groups, as well as research centers and platforms that wish to present their digital portals, databases, corpora, or any other digital tool may send the Review Editor (dtorollo@ucm.es) a brief summary of their contribution along with the relevant links they would like to have reviewed.
GUIDELINES FOR REVIEWERS OF BOOKS AND DIGITAL RESOURCES
Toldot. Studia Hebraica et Sephardica accepts review proposals both from independent reviewers and from invited reviewers. In both cases, the submission steps must be followed, according to the SUBMISSIONS SECTION. Independent reviewers will be asked to declare any connection they may have with the author of the work proposed for review and to explain why they consider Toldot. Studia Hebraica et Sephardica an appropriate venue for the review.
Book and digital resource reviews must adhere to the JOURNALS' STYLE GUIDELINES and meet the following criteria:
- The reviewer has no conflict of interest.
- The review offers balanced opinions. Any weaknesses noted must be justified with convincing arguments.
- The reviewer has appropriate academic training for the specific review.
- The tone must be respectful and academic, even when addressing the shortcomings of the work under review.
For the preparation of reviews, the reviewer must include at least:
- The bibliographic data, including the author/editor’s name, the book title, edition, publisher, year of publication, number of pages, and ISBN. In the case of digital resources, the URL must be provided.
- A description of the author’s objectives and the intended audience.
- A general description of the content and organization of the work.
- An analysis of the main contributions of the work in relation to the reviewer’s area of expertise.
- A general evaluation of the work based on its critical assessment.
For invited reviews, provided that the Editorial Board has received a copy of the work from the author, a copy of the book will be sent to the reviewers for evaluation. Once the reviewer has accepted the request from the Review Editor, they will have a period of three months to submit the review. If the reviewer is unable to meet this commitment, the book must be returned to the Review Editor so that it can be reassigned to another reviewer.
