What is the translation ?: about three «translations» of «The Task of the Translator» Walter Benjamin

Abstract

This work is divided into two parts. The first seeks to formulate the concept of literary translation from a comment of «The Task of the Translator» Walter Benjamin. To do this, it relies on readings translations by French philosophy in the 80 taking as text corpus [L'Âge de la traduction] Antoine Berman and the article [«Des tours de Babel»] of Jacques Derrida. These allow both moments of thought articulate the translation to identify what might be called the «originality» of the proposal for Benjamin and his influence on contemporary philosophy. The second part seeks to explain the course taken by the problem of translation in the West, strongly marked by the concept of the untranslatable. This problem tends toward an ethic that leads us to pose the challenge that threatens all the texts worked as well as this: Can the concept of translation as a tool for thinking the difference?
