Verbs of Sensory Perception: A Spanish-Italian Contrastive Study from Cognitive Linguistics
Abstract In this paper, a Spanish-Italian contrastive analysis of the verbs of sensory perception is carried out using the tools developed by Cognitive Linguistics. On the one hand, the differences in epistemic modality between the verbs of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and taste are compared. On the other hand, the differences between both languages are compared through conceptual metaphors. In addition, the passive/active distinction in actions is also taken into account.
