Melania G. Mazzucco: of Cryptogyny and Magma
Abstract
Melania G. Mazzucco (Rome, 1966) is one of the most important narrative voices in contemporary Italian literature. Throughout her work, made up to date of ten novels published between 1996 and 2019, she has written and rewritten the history of the female character and, as such, marginalized, dissident and exocanonical. Her work raises fundamental critical questions and this article wants to shed some light on some of them: first, the question of the literary generation from a critical perspective and the concept of magma explorers; on the other hand, the recovery of the memory of the female character through a recently coined term: cryptogyny. In short, these lines want to be a critical approach to the mazzucchian concept of the contemporary novel.
