Francisco de Vitoria and Emmanuel Lévinas: The Doctrine about Indians and the Rights of the Human Other
Abstract Although Human Rights have been built from the idea of freedom and equality to mediating an inter-identity encounter, as exposed in the postulate of Francisco de Vitoria, Emmanuel Lévinas’ thought can be converted the approach through other principles: responsibility and illeality. This can be an important conversion if we consider it as an encounter between civilizations as important as the one given in 1492, of course, on the island of Bohio (Dominican Republic). Likewise, from the Doctrine on the Indians of Francisco de Vitoria, points of harmony and divergence are deciphered that help the Levinasian reflection on Human Rights: the Rights of the Other Human.
