Active Musical Recess: A Strategy to Promote Physical Activity in Primary Education
Abstract
The present research article aims to demonstrate the potential of the «active musical recess» within Primary Education schools, as it represents a strategy to combat sedentary behavior in schools and promote the integral development of students at the physical, social, and mental levels. Likewise, the study examines the motivating power of music in encouraging students at this educational stage to take an interest in physical activity during these specific periods, thus integrating the area of Physical Education with elements of Music Education, based on previous research by other authors. As a result, we offer a guide to developing these types of activities, which includes prior planning, identifying students’ musical preferences, and implementing the activity. In conclusion, the implementation of music stimulates students’ motor systems and coordination and positively promotes inclusion, social interaction, and cooperation, breaking down gender differences within physical activity.
