Musical Apprehension MusScreen Based on the Didactic-Musical Strategies of the Film Luanna, a yak in school (Choyning, 2019)

Abstract

Based on the growing interest in the inclusion of audiovisual media in music education, and specifically in the training of future teachers of the Degree in Early Childhood Education, this study focuses on the use of singing and songs as a didactic-musical resource through the feature film Lunana, a yak in school (Choyning, 2019), using the musical apprehension strategy of the MusScreen method. Its study objectives are to identify the singing sequences or those related to singing within the film and to extract didactic-musical strategies using the MusScreen musical apprehension procedure to propose methodological resources. Through a documentary and educational approach, didactic-musical strategies are extracted based on the observation and analysis of scenes with diegetic and extradiegetic songs, children’s songs, traditional songs, prayer songs, or courtship songs, as well as their aesthetic, therapeutic, or cultural value. The results reveal that singing represents 27% of the film’s total footage, highlighting its importance as a vehicle for transmitting values, emotions, and knowledge. In conclusion, it is determined that the use of audiovisual material using the MusScreen methodology can contribute to the development of teaching skills related to the teaching of musical expression in early childhood education.
