Abstract

The article will try to answer the following question: to what extent did the organization structure, tactical doctrine, operational training and weapons endowment of the Spanish Army, both the peninsular one and the deployed in Morocco, affected the Annual disaster? To this end, these factors will be analyzed in the context of the second decade of the twentieth century, and it can be concluded that they were indeed decisive in the erroneous planning and development of the operation aimed at subjugating the eastern Rif and for the hasty abandonment of that position and the consequent collapse of the General Command of Melilla.
