The Antonia Family Who Was Descendant of Anton, Herakles’ Son: The Manipulation of a Myth

Abstract

Analysis of the mythical lineage created by Mark Antony in the civil war context at the final Republic. The coin use as a propaganda support was very common among the current political leaders. The Antony connection with Herakles and Dionysus was used by the octavian propaganda to discredit him faced with Rome city public opinion, by showing him as a foreigner. Some concrete examples are studied.
