Education for Citizenship through Cinema. Equality and Inclusion as Goals of the Education System

Abstract

In the Spanish constitutional system, education is not only a social right. It is a political right as it plays an essential role in the construction of citizenship and, consequently, in the achievement of the egalitarian objectives of a democracy. In this way, education, equality and citizenship are the political and ethical basis of the constitutional pact. A triangle that refers us to the need to educate in civic values, as shown in the films discussed in this article. Through the analysis of these audiovisual products, the main challenges, and complexities, of democratic education in the 21st century are raised.
