The primary school in the Basque Country during the Civil War

Abstract

The agitated period of the Civil War disturbed completly the educative life of the State. The educative measure was reorganized, some urgent measures were assumed in order to solve punctual problems which were caused by the war, the educative position was modified as the war was going by. From this complicated network, the present study is circunscribed to the territory that during the months of the war in the Basque Country was in the hands of the Republican government. Through out this study it is tried to make clear the institutional development that elementary education was given from the organs and agents of Ministerio de Instrucción Pública in the Basque Country and from the hands of the newly created Provisional Government of Euskadi. From the measures of one side and the other is derived the controversial situation in which elementary education was found during those months in the Basque Country.
