About the Journal

Scope

SHHC publishes original research works about Modern and Contemporary History (18th-21st centuries). We publish articles based on primary sources, bibliographical essays that meet the academic standards and are relevant to the discipline, as well as book reviews on related topics. We accept proposals in Spanish and English, and exceptionally in other scientific languages.

Sections

Every SHHC issue contains a monographic dossier as well as varia and reviews sections.

Annual publication

SHHC publishes one issue per year.

Peer-review journal

Every research paper published in SHHC, both articles based on primary sources and bibliographical essays, passes a double-blinded external evaluation process. The manuscript is submitted to two external reviewers, who assess the scientific quality of the manuscript according to its originality, structure, use of sources, formal quality and relevance for the field. The positive assessment of both is required. In case of remarkable discrepancies, the article will be submitted to a third evaluator.

No charges for authors

SHHC charges no fees for submission or publication

Commited to research from early-career authors and developing countries

SHHC encourages submissions from early-career authors and researchers working in developing countries, especially Latin America.

Open access policy

Following the procedures set by Ediciones Universidad de Salamanca since 2011, SHHC is a Gold Open Access journal, in compliance with the Spanish Science, Technology and Innovation Law 14/2011 of the 1st of June.

Databases dissemination

The journal commits to providing XML metadata or other specific formats immediately after its publication in «eUSAL Journals» within three months in order to promote dissemination in databases (Proquest, Ebsco, Elsevier, DOAJ, CrossRef / DOI).

Self-archive and digital preservation

Authors are authorized to publish their work on the Internet (for example in institutional repositories or personal web pages) always after editing (in no case before or during the review or proofreading phases). However, we recommend providing the URL instead. These measures are taken to encourage reading and citation of the article as well as to achieve a greater and faster dissemination of the published work (see The Effect of Open Access).

This journal is kept in the two main repositories of the University of Salamanca:

This journal uses the LOCKSS system to generate an archive distributed among the participating libraries, allowing them to create permanent archives of the journal for preservation and restoration.
