The interactive whiteboard: a methodological usage strategy to support the teaching and learning of Mathematics

Abstract

This article presents an experience that shows the results of using the interactive whiteboard[2], within a didactic and methodological model called "Interactive Model for Mathematical Learning[3]", in order to support the teaching and learning process in mathematics. The learning of mathematics is complex, because, among other reasons, it is complex to visualize, it is abstract and has its own symbology. Using interactive whiteboards permitted exploring the following possibilities and innovations: role change on the part of the teacher, student; meaningful learning connected to real life: access to more resources; making mathematics more "visible" and generalizable; more time can be spent in understanding problems, searching for information, analyzing and reflecting on them; discussions are generated, with a methodology and didactic strategy that is highly coherent with what it is expected to be active learning in action, centered on the student, situated, constructive and collaborative.
