Development and application of new techonologies to higher education
Abstract E-status is a computer tool designed so that the students can solve statistical problems and obtain immediate correction. In the present work we put forward: a) its use during the adaptation to the system of credits ECTS required by the process of European convergence, exemplified in a concrete subject; and b) a design proposed to quantify its impact in the learning. The methodology is based on a number of problems (22, in this case) that the students can solve repeatedly, since the initial data is variable. The professor follows a planning coordinated with the agenda of the course, and problems are made public when the educational material is given to the students. All the work is kept in a data base, so that both professors and students can follow up and value the reached progress. Thus, while the goal of the students can be to reach some mark from their work, the professor has a resource to measure the dedication of the pupils, to detect weak points in their advance and to take corrective measures. We have confirmed that the tool fits well with the EHEA model, since lines as ICTs promotion, more active role of the student in the learning, or the educational development of new materials and techniques are a priority to the Bologna Process.
