Our North is South. A current view on the migratory process in Latin America

Abstract

Migrations are historical and diverse phenomena. Nowadays they have become huge as well as contentious, ignited by the global scenario. The analytical emphasis of this text is the migration between brother countries in Latin America, seeking their North in the South. The causes - due to violence or lack of opportunities- vary. Complete integration has therefore become an exception, affecting especially children and women. Education seems to be the lifesaver because other support is temporary. Regretfully, access to and quality of education have gaps which generate fear. There are neither national nor local policies dealing with this issue; therefore migration is left to the good will of humanitarian organizations. Although exclusion and uprooting are predominant, there are positive signs and challenges. Creating awareness of this problem is a step forward. Efforts in norms, cycles, back holding networks, and flexible education management provide hope. The South could become a less discouraging North. Solidary globalization has its space without transgressing anyone’s rights.
