Units of learning, a proposal of complement to learning objects

Abstract

Nowadays, the design, creation and use of Learning Objects (LO), occupy an important place into the eLearning practice. Current specifications (SCORM – Sharable Content Object Reference Model, IMS Content Packaging) provide guidelines on how to design, create and describe LO making them interoperable. However, after an analysis it is concluded that collaborative works in a multi-user environment can't be described with current specifications and learning objects. This article introduces an initiative, known as Learning Design, offering a mechanism allowing, from generic elements and a standard language, describe complete teaching-learning processes that can be reproduced, executed and interchanged by Learning Design compliant systems.
