About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The topic of interest of Education in The Knowledge Society (EKS) journal is the research related to the Knowledge Society. We understand it from an utterly interdisciplinary perspective, but with particular emphasis on educational processes as real engines of the Knowledge Society, to be able to generate new knowledge in this line and under a symbiosis with the most cutting-edge technological advances.

It appears up to volume Vol. 15, no. 4 (2014) with the title Theory of Education: Education and Culture in the Information Society (TESI).

Peer Review Process

All papers submitted, after reviewing the format and adaptation to the editorial policy and scope of the journal by the editorial team, will be analysed by external evaluators, by strict criteria of scientific quality. In case of lack of agreement between the proposal of the two reviewers on the acceptance or rejection of the work, it will be the Editorial Board that makes the final decision given the reports of the evaluators. The decision on the proposed articles can be as follows:

  • Acceptance of work without changes
  • Acceptance of work with the request for minor changes in form
  • Acceptance of the work with the request for significant changes of substance and form
  • Request for significant changes and referral for review
  • Rejection of work

Publication Frequency

From volume 20 (2019) onwards, the journal is published in a continuous mode, that is to say, one volume per year in which the articles will be placed immediately after their acceptance and style edition.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

No Charges for Levied Processing Contributions or for Publication in Open Access Format (APC)

Sections of the Journal

The EKS Journal, is divided into several sections:

  1. Editorial
  2. Articles: these allow readers to further explore the main theme addressed in the Journal.

Commitment to Research Submitted by New Authors and Authors from Developing Countries

The EKS Journal, supports the research carried out by authors or research teams from developing countries, especially from Latin-America, whose texts are presented in scientific language, preferably in English or Spanish.

We are also committed to new authors from all over the world who wish to send articles written in these languages.

Use of inclusive language

EKS recommends that published articles use inclusive language that promotes gender equality in science.

Permission to Self-Archive and Digital Preservation

Authors are authorized to publish on the internet (for example, in institutional repositories or personal web sites) after publication (in no case prior to the review, layout or even in the phase of proof-reading); in the event of embargo, immediately after this has expired. It is also permitted in cases in which the costs of APCs (article processing charges) have been paid to the Editorial Board. These measures are designed to foster the reading and citation of contributions and to achieve greater and faster dissemination of the work published (see The Effect of Open Access)

The Journal can be accessed from the two main repositories of the University of Salamanca:

This Journal uses the LOCKSS system to create an archive distributed among the participating libraries, allowing them to create permanent archives of the Journal with a view to preservation and restoration.

Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement requirements

With the submission of their originals to the journal, the authors agree to accept the usual procedures in the scientific community: only original papers will be sent, that have not been previously published and that are not subject to evaluation by other journals. Thus, the originals sent to the journal will not be sent other publications until the evaluation process is completed by our journal.

The authors must respect the international regulations on copyright of the texts, graphics and other materials included in their writings sent to the journal for publication. For their part, the editors, the editorial board and the reviewers of the journal will ensure the integrity of the research is maintained, which, in the first instance, is the responsibility of the authors. Therefore, a call is made to the authors to continue avoiding practices such as plagiarism and "self-plagiarism".

Information on the specific contribution of each of the authors to the published articles

The order of signatures/affiliation in the article should reflect the effort and contribution.

Registration funder of articles published

The funding agency(ies) external to University must be indicated, indicating the reference(s) of the project(s) in the framework of which the research that has given rise to the publication of the article has been carried out. Journal History

Education in The Knowledge Society (EKS) journal is the second editorial stage of the Revista Teoría de la Educación: Educación y Cultura en la Sociedad de la Información (TESI), which was founded in 1998 by Dr. Joaquín García Carrasco.

In this new stage the journal consolidates its interest in the field of research related to the Knowledge Society, understood from a completely interdisciplinary point of view, but with special emphasis on the teaching and learning processes as the core Knowledge Society engines, for discoursing and generating nee knowledge in this area and on a symbiosis with the most cutting-edge technological advances.

Internalization is other of the main goals in this new editorial stage, so although the Spanish will remain the base language, we encourage authors to submit manuscripts in other languages, with special emphasis on English (with possibility of publication in other languages on request).

Following the tradition of the first editorial stage, original research papers will be preferably published, all of them after a previous double-blind evaluation.

From volume 20 (2019) onwards, the journal is published in a continuous mode, that is to say, one volume per year in which the articles will be placed immediately after their acceptance and style edition. This means reducing the time between acceptance and open publication of the paper.

EKS is indexed in Scopus and the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) of the Web of Science. Also, it appears in other directories and databases such as MIAR, DOAJ, Latindex, Redalyc, Dialnet and Google Academic.

In this second stage the journal is headed by Dr. Francisco José García Peñalvo, supported by an editorial team of extensive research experience in which, how could it be otherwise, we have the invaluable collaboration of the founder of the journal, Dr. Joaquín García Carrasco, as Honorary Editor.

All editorial team members face the challenge to maintain, and if possible to increase, the international prestige of this publication, which is merit of the good work of our mentor Dr. García Carrasco.
