Alice Pestana, Portuguese, Republican, educating in Institución Libre de Enseñanza
Abstract Alice Pestana is one of the best representations of the educated woman, defending a secular, republican to be found in the ILE, the Portuguese and Spanish educational tradition of the late nineteenth and first third of the twentieth century. The article demonstrates its committed performance as an educator, a teacher of foreign languages, translator of educational issues, and a writer of children’s books, and committed to correctional education of children with social maladjust- ment. She is an outstanding cultural and educational bridge between Spain and Por- tugal, from Republican categories.
