The Grammar in bachelor's school handbooks

Abstract

This work analyse both the reform of the curriculum in the secondary school and the programme evolution of the Grammar, based on the study of the handbooks on this matter. The first important step towards the Grammar's autonomy appeared in the curriculum of 1901, when it was separated from Latin and joined to other linguistic and literary matter. Specially controversial and negative was the reform of the Callejo's Programme (1926), since it involved the removal of the Spanish language from the curriculum, even when it was restored again during the Republic of 19 31. During the Franco's government, language and literature were consolidated in the different programmes and the teachers were required to use more practical than theoretical lessons and more active methods.
