Desde la madre-patria Española al estado de las autonomías: la idea de España en los manuales escolares (1900-2007)

RESUMEN: En este artículo se recoge una serie de textos representativos de cómo se explicó la idea de España a los niños en los manuales escolares editados entre 1900 y 2007 y pertenecientes fundamentalmente al nivel de la Enseñanza Primaria y a las materias de Educación Moral y Cívica o Ciencias Sociales. Se ha realizado una selección de libros atendiendo a criterios de impacto y a la variedad de modelos nacionalistas incluidos en ellos. No es nuestro propósito establecer conclusiones generales, pero sí apuntar la existencia de discursos nacionalistas que aparecen en momentos concretos y son dominantes en ese periodo, aunque coexistan, incluso dentro de la misma obra, con otros discursos de diferentes épocas o tendencias. Ilustramos esta hipótesis con algunos ejemplos entresacados de los manuales escolares elegidos. También afirmamos la importancia de realizar un análisis paralelo de textos e imágenes, ya que las imágenes transportan las representaciones simbólicas de la identidad nacional de España.ABSTRACT: In this article we present a set of representative texts about the way in which the idea of Spain was transmitted to the children in the textbooks published between 1900 and 2007 that were mainly used in Primary Education and in the subjects of Moral and Civic Education or Social Sciences. We have made the selection of books according to the criteria of impact and to the diversity of nationalistic models that they were including. It is not our aim to draw general conclusions on the topic, but we would like to point to the existence of nationalist discourses that appeared in specific moments and that were the dominant discourse of this specific historical period, although it is possible that they coexist, even inside the same book, together with other discourses belonging to other very different epochs or tendencies. We illustrate this hypothesis with some examples taken from the chosen textbooks. We also state the importance of making a parallel analysis of text and images, because the images carry symbolic representations of the Spanish national identity.
