Eremitorios rupestres y colonización altomedieval

Resumen

RESUMEN: En el norte de la Península Ibérica son abundantes las cuevas que han servido como eremitorios en la Alta Edad Media. Pero la supervivencia del habitat rupestre debe relacionarse con algunas formas de asentamientos humanos. El análisis de la documentación de La Rioja permite comprobar las relaciones de estas cuevas con los grandes monasterios de la zona y con el proceso de colonización agraria existente en la época, subrayando su papel en el poblamiento hasta los siglos X-XI.ABSTRACT: In the North of the Iberian Peninsula, there are a lot of caves, which have been a type of hermit's settlement during the Early Middle Ages. But this survival of rock habitats must be connected with some form of human settlements. Analysis of documents about the Rioja region enables us to demonstrate their relationship with the great monasteries of the area and with the process of agrarian colonization in that period, highlighting their role in settlement until the 10th and 11th centuries.
