Maurice Mierau's last book, Fear Not, won the ReLit award for poetry in 2009. This excerpt is part of an unpublished memoir that concerns adopting Maurice's two youngest sons in Ukraine in 2005, and his father's traumatic childhood fleeing Soviet Ukraine with the German army in 1943.
