Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • All details of personal identification must be absent from the manuscript, as well as from the file properties. If necessary, the author's name should be replaced by "author" throughout the article.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • Author has completed his/her bio statement on the journal platform with institutional affiliation, rank, department, ORCID, and major fields of research.

Author Guidelines

Before submitting an article, please make sure that your text follows the MLA guidelines. Additionally, please read the instructions below:

1.1. General

Articles must be the result of original research.

Prospective contributors to Canada and Beyond commit themselves to the following when they submit a manuscript:

  • That no concurrent consideration of the same, or almost identical, work by any other journal and/or publisher is taking place.
  • That the potential contribution has not appeared previously, in any form whatsoever, in another journal, electronic format or as a chapter/section of a book.

Seeking permission for the use of copyright material is the responsibility of the author.

Articles should be between 6,000 and 8,000 words, including abstract, keywords and works cited. They should be clearly written and have a sharp and clearly-stated focus. They should follow the latest version of the MLA Formatting and Style Guide.

1.2. Structure

Articles should contain the following sections:

Abstract: The first page of each article must include a title plus a 250-word abstract. It should consist of one paragraph and contain no bibliographical references in parenthetical form.

Key Words: Just after the abstract, append a list of up to six keywords separated with semi-colons, so that your contribution can be accurately classified by international reference indexes. Place your keywords in alphabetical order. Do not use a period at the end of the list of keywords.

Introduction providing the context of the research, formulating the research question(s), the methodology, and theoretical framework, a brief review of the existing scholarship on the subject, justifying the validity, originality, and scientific interest of the research claim.

The body of the article, in which the analysis must substantiate the research claim. 

A conclusions section, in which the contribution made to scholarship is neatly delimited and emphasized.

A Works Cited section.

Headings and subheadings: Up to four levels of headings are permissible. Use headings for the Abstract, Key Words, Introduction, Main text sections, Conclusions, and Works Cited. Please follow this style:

  • Level 2: 1.1. Arabic  number + Arabic number, bold.
  • Level 31.1.1. Arabic number+ Arabic numbers, bold and italics.
  • Level 4: 1.1.1.a. Arabic number+ Arabic numbers + letter, italics.

Do not number the Works Cited heading.

1.3. Language

Manuscripts are to be submitted in English. Authors must consistently follow Canadian spelling conventions.

1.4. Inclusive language policy

Authors are required to use inclusive language that avoids any biases or discriminatory expressions of any kind.



You can suggest potential reviewers for your article by providing 1) Full name, 2) Affiliation, 3) email address; 4) Brief description of their expertise in relation to the submitted article.
The journal will not necessarily contact the suggested reviewers, and guarantees a blind peer review process.


Articles should be 6000-8000 words, double-spaced.

Font and size: Times New Roman 12.

Footnotes and references should follow MLA guidelines.
