Abstract

A new trilobites fauna discovered near La Rinconada de la Sierra (prov. Salamanca) below a thick calcareous sequence (Tamames Limestone) has been determined by Prof. SDZUY of Wurzburg University (Germany) as belonging to Lowermost Cambrian (Ovetian) through the appearance of Pararedlichia HUPE 1953. This is the first time that Cambrian strata are dated in Central western Spain. Since Ordovician quartzltes rest unconformably on this unit, here is represented a lacuna from Middle Cambrian to Lower Ordovician, due to the Bohemian-Sardic phase. The presence of shales with Didymograptus on top of the quartzites shows the existence of Middle Ordovician.
