Abstract

The geological study of the Viñón area (Asturias, NW Spain), shows the presence of four different lithological units of age supposedly ranging from Stephanian for the lower one and Permian for the two intermediate ones to Bunt (Lower Triassic) for the upper one. Several volcanic flows, either subaerial, submarine or lopolithic are distributed throughout the series. These rocks are plagioclasic basalts with augite and olivine showing gravitative settling and metasomatism in several instances. The age of vulcanism is supposed Permian.
