Estudio petrológico del plutón de Boal (Asturias, NW de España)
Abstract The Boal granite stock intrudes a pelitic sequence of probable Upper Ordovician age (Llandeilo) and develops a contact metamorphism area with distinctive enormous chiastolite crystals that spreads far from the batholite contact according to the local structures. The granite is of acid character and made up of granodiorites and granites with megacrystals and from medium to coarse-grained. Porphyry dikes are abundant and there are some rare aplites and pegmatites. The type and position of the Boal granite in the hercynian series is discussed here.
