Ethics and the Absurd. Don Quixote and Abraham versus the Society of Knowing

Abstract

The article analyses the relationship between Don Quixote, as considered by Miguel de Unamuno, and Abraham, studied by Søren Kierkegaard. Both philosophers desígnate the characters as «knights of faith». Despite appearing to be similar, the two thinkers have substantially different perspectives and use different symbols. In the concluding chapter I analyse the concrete possibility that an ethic based on the absurd can have relevance to contemporary society.
