Unamuno in the face of the extreme populisms of the Republic
Abstract From the texts of the last Unamuno, this work analyses his criticism of the increasing bipolarization and political extremism during the Second Spanish Republic; trying to clarify Unamuno’s distinction between civil war and un?civil war; as well as the causes of the mental and religious degeneration that, by his saying, were given away by the behavior of many youth groups and extreme political camps: the «Hunos» and the «Hotros». Constantly Unamuno proposed the «alterutral» ideal as a model –as utopian as it is difficult–, essential if it was about to achieve truly dialectical and civil politics.
