«Hispanidad»: The Development of a Polemical Notion in the Work of Miguel de Unamuno
Abstract ABSTRACT: This article analyses the genealogy of the concept of «Hispanidad» in the work of Unamuno. It argues that Unamuno saw the creation of a Hispanic identity as a long-term project based on a relationship of differentiation and integration between Spain and the other Spanish-speaking nations. It also reveals the essential role that Unamuno assigns to language in his construction of this identity.
