About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The Revista de Estudios Brasileños (REB), is edited by Ediciones Universidades de Salamanca with the assistance of the Universidade de São Paulo. It is offered as a channel of dynamic academic expression and open to as many people interested in everything that shapes the identity of Brazil, in the fields of Humanities and Social and Legal Sciences. The objective of the journal is to encourage and establish academic / scientific discussions and disseminate ideas and / or research, constituting a platform in Brazilian studies.

REB aspires to become a reference academic channel, in order to be indexed in the main databases, and thus ensure the quality of its publications and that these contribute to achieve the mission of it.

This objective reveals significant importance, given the development of Brazilian studies as a new area of academic knowledge. In this sense, if Brazil has advanced significantly in recent years, revealing itself as one of the world's great economies at the moment, naturally the country currently assumes more visibility in the international scenario. Precisely because of the current political and economic role of Brazil in the global context, the interdisciplinary study of the reality of this country has aroused special interest. Consequently, collaborative initiatives in joint academic research between different universities are growing, as well as academic programs specifically aimed at "Brazilian studies", such as the "Master in Brazilian Studies" offered by the University of Salamanca, in conjunction with the University of São Paulo. In this context of exchange of ideas between academic communities of "Brazilians" inside and outside of Brazil, the Journal of Brazilian Studies proposes to assume an active and dynamic space.

Once the editorial line of REB is defined, its direct recipients are the academics who study Brazil, as well as users who, because of their professional activity, may have a specific interest in the Brazilian reality.

It is a semi-annual journal with two fundamental parts: Human Sciences and Social and Legal Sciences.

In each issue, in addition to the editorial and a general section, formed by articles approved from the double-blind peer review system (evaluation by external blind peers) dealing with issues related to the editorial line such as literature, culture, sociology , economics, anthropology, history, law, politics, geography, etc. (estimate between 3 and 5 papers), there will be an interview with a relevant character of the Brazilian intelligentsia or international Brazilianism and a dossier that deals with an in-depth topic with several articles to analyze it (with 6 to 8 articles). It will also include a section of reviews of recently published books on the topics addressed by the magazine and a "bulletin board" (or news) designed to disseminate the academic and research activity of the universities.

Editorial policy of the sections:

  • Editorial: indexed
  • General Section: open submission; jobs indexed and approved according to the double-blind peer review system.
