Reflexiones sobre El Nombre de la Rosa y la medicina

Abstract

In this text I intend to reflect upon the book The Name of the Rose1. This intellectual poetry allows us to analyze the evolution of the perception of the Universals throughout history. From the title to its end, the author takes us on a path full of historical and self-perceived changes. It is interesting how the determining context always plays a relevant role and the power of ideas often transcends the reality one experiences. In this sense, Umberto Eco, shows us how different philosophical aspects can be implemented without having to choose one over the other, which leads us to meditate on utopia in philosophical symbiosis. This approach allows us to see the relationship between ontological, gnoseological, linguistic and other fields, such as medicine. In the following paragraphs, I will explore some of these aspects and how they intertwine with our beloved discipline. Philosophy allows us to analyze and understand the abstract concepts that underlie medical practice; and it can help us improve the quality of care we provide to our patients, as well as our relationship with colleagues.
